Do you know a person who is unstoppable? Or, maybe a story of someone? Why do we like the “beating the odds” stories? I think it’s because they give us hope. They inspire us. They challenge us to dig deep and to not give up.
But as much as I love these stories, I like God stories better. Why?
Because you have a power source that is WAY beyond your will power – it’s God’s power!
The Bible is replete with average people like you and me doing things we could NEVER do outside of God’s Spirit!
One of the most inspiring examples of this is found in the life of David. David was chosen by God as a teenager to be the next king of Israel. Unfortunately, the present king was jealous of David and made him run for his life – living in caves, begging for food, and having to defend his character.
Have you ever been in a season like that, where you have done nothing wrong and yet you are dealt a raw hand, falsely accused, overlooked, underappreciated, and maybe even feel forsaken by God? Honestly, we all have.
But what did David do? At the darkest point of his life, when neither his own people, nor the enemy, wanted him, (that’s pretty bad) with his town having been ransacked and burnt to the ground, his wife and kids kidnapped, and his closest friends talking about stoning him to death, David did something that totally changed the outcome of his story, and it will change yours too!
The Bible says,
“But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6
Have you ever done that? It’s a choice, you know.
Hope and I have been going through the toughest trial(s) of our lives. We are both very proactive, can-do kind of people, but the trials we have faced over the past year have, at times, literally stopped us in our tracks. There have been days when we truly believed that we couldn’t go on, that we needed to give up on areas of our lives that we thought were God’s will for us. I’m positive you have felt the same way before.
BUT, we have decided not to be victimized. We’ve decided that we can’t live depressed, angry, weary, and doubtful. We have decided to strengthen ourselves in the Lord! And it’s working!
This is exactly what David did. He did not spend one second asking God why this happened to him. Neither did Joseph in the midst of his trial(s). Nor did Paul when he was stoned to death in Acts 14. Neither did Jesus when He was on His way to die for our sins. Rather, they asked God what He wanted them to DO!
The question isn’t if you are going to suffer but rather how are you going to respond to it.
Suffering is part of doing the will of God.
And here’s the best part of the story – after David sought God, God said,
“Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” 1 Samuel 30:8b
Notice that God did not give him the promise of recovering all (which David did!) until David did his part – he sought the Lord and asked Him what he wanted him to do. THAT will be your turning point as well.
Don’t waste another day being victimized and asking God why. It is easy to give into pity. Whenever I do that it doesn’t serve me well. It won’t serve you well either. Rather, ask God
“What do you want me to DO?”
The world needs you. Your kids need you. Your spouse needs you. And Jesus needs you to be unstoppable in His name!
So what are you going to do?
