A number of years ago author Rhonda Byrne wrote a book called, “The Secret”.

The premise is that your thoughts control the universe. Through this “law of attraction” you “manifest” your desires. It is exactly like placing an order from a website… You must know that what you want is yours the moment you ask the Universe. You must “See yourself living in abundance and you will attract it. It works every time, with every person.”

This, of course, is very appealing. We all have daily wants and needs and we are all trying to figure out how to get them fulfilled. Then to find out that all you have to do is want them enough, think positive thoughts, and then ask the Universe for them, and it will happen, is extremely enticing.

Now, for those of you who might think this is just silly, and that no one would fall for it, millions and millions have. You might be one of them. The book has sold millions of copies, is printed in thirty different languages, and they even made a movie about it.

So, what’s the big deal? And how does this relate to our 30 for 30s Strength and Strategy?

That’s easy to answer.

“The Secret” is nothing new. It is New Age. It was the first lie Satan sowed into the minds of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. That they could control their own destiny. That they could be gods.

So, what is the difference between “The Secret” and “The Gospel”?

“The Secret” teaches that you relate to the Universe through your thoughts.

“The Gospel” teaches that you relate to the Maker of the universes, as your Father, from your heart.

Would you rather be in “relationship” with the Universe, or in a very personal relationship as a son or daughter of the God who made the universes?

Here is the real secret…

“For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.” Colossians 1:17 NLT

Paul said it this way:

“I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:12-13 NLT

Jesus is your source of strength. Christ “in you”, not the Universe “around you” is your secret to divine strength and strategy in every situation, whether good or bad.

Don’t be fooled by Satan’s lies. You can always identify one of his lies because it always leads you away from the Person of Christ Himself. Satan always makes it about you, not Jesus. What do the stars say about you? What can the stars give you? What star or planet or constellation do you identify with? Yet, the Bible says the universe declares the glory of God. We worship Him and He takes care of us.

“I look at your heavens, which you made with your fingers. I see the moon and stars, which you created. But why are people even important to you? Why do you take care of human beings? Yet You made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.” Psalm 8: 3, 4 NCV

And when it comes to your needs, God makes this amazing promise as you stay connect to Jesus:

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

As you seek Jesus in your 30 for 30 today, draw your strength from Him. Pour your heart out to Him. Tell Him about all your needs, desires, worries, hopes, and dreams. He will hear every thought, listen to every word, and feel every emotion. And He will answer you.

THINK ABOUT IT

  1. Why do you think people, maybe you, are attracted to this New Age philosophy, or others like it? (Maybe you did not know that was a New Age philosophy, but now you do)
  2. How does it make you feel knowing that you can have a heart-to-heart relationship with the God who made the universes, and Whose Son holds the universes together, rather than the abstract universe?
  3. Who will you share this secret with today?
