Are You Focused?
I did a wedding in one of the most gorgeous spots in the world today. I stayed behind to enjoy the beauty, and before I knew it, I had missed my daily vlog!
One day Jesus was walking through one of the most awe-inspiring buildings ever built, and his disciples began to point out all the amazing aspects of it. Look at how Jesus responded:
Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them,
“Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” Matthew 24:1-3
This happened just a few years later, in 70AD when the Roman Emperor Titus leveled it. Jesus went on to talk about the end times, and His Second Coming.
My question is, are we focused on the right things?
Certainly, we are to enjoy this life. The Bible is clear on this point. Just look at this Scripture:
“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” 1 Timothy 3:17-19 NIV
Did you notice that enjoying this life is not all we are called to do but to also “lay up treasure in heaven”! How do we do this? By investing our time, talents, and treasures into the kingdom of God now!
Are you doing that?
If this is not the motivation of your life, I guarantee you that you are still unsatisfied, even as a Christ-follower.
Jesus plainly said that we are NOT to be pursuing the things of this world, but rather His kingdom. And, if we did that, He would personally add all these other things to us.
Jesus does not mind you having nice things. What He does mind though is nice things having you!
Do not live for this present world. Enjoy it, but do not live for it. Live for the next.
