Christianity is a “Thank You” religion. What do I mean by that? Check out this verse:

“Therefore, by Him (Jesus) let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” Hebrews 13:15

The Book of Hebrews is a letter written to Jews who had come to Christ. The entire letter talks about how their way of relating to God has changed forever. For centuries, the way they had to approach God was through a priest going through an elaborate ritual of preparing and offering animal sacrifices that would temporarily cover their sins. However, now, God has provided His own sacrifice for our sins, once and for all – His own Son, the “Lamb of God”.

Animal sacrifices were only a temporary substitute for the one and only sacrifice that would ever truly, completely, and eternally wipe out our sins.

So, what does our opening Scripture say about how we related to God now? What is our sacrifice?

Thankfulness.

Here are just three things you can give God thanks for today:

Thank God today for your salvation.

You do not have to work for God’s favor and forgiveness. You do not have to offer endless sacrifices or jump through religious hoops. Your salvation is a free gift, bought by the sacrifice of Jesus.

“For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him. Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious gift from God that brought us to Christ! So, no one will ever be able to boast, for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving.” Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

Thank God today for His Presence.

Rather than a priest going “behind the veil” into the “Holy of Holies” on your behalf, you can go directly into the Presence of God anytime, anywhere!

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:19-22 NLT

Thank God today for heaven.

Earth is simply our temporary residence. When you have fulfilled God’s purpose for your life down here, you get to go be with Him forever up there.

“Blessed [gratefully praised and adored] be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant and boundless mercy has caused us to be born again [that is, to be reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose] to an ever-living hope and confident assurance through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, [born anew] into an inheritance which is imperishable [beyond the reach of change] and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you.” 1 Peter 1:3-4 Amp

Christianity is not about what we do for God first, but rather what He has already done for us.

That is why our opening Scripture goes on to say,

“But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13:16

You see, we do good to others as a response to God already being good to us by giving us His Son.

Let thankfulness fill your heart today. It will be the best way for people to know what Christianity truly is.
