The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens me morning by morning. He awakens my ear to hear as the learned. The Lord God has opened my ear and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away.” Isaiah 50:4-5

Hearing what God has to say to you first thing in the morning is what sets up your day for victory! And this Scripture makes it plain that that is exactly what He wants to do.

When you first wake up and the day’s demands begin to enter your mind, it can be overwhelming. That is not the best way to start your day. A better way to start the day is to get up a bit earlier than usual so you can hear what God has to say to you about your day.

Here are some things I see in these verses that should encourage you:

God will wake you up. I mean this literally. If you will ask Him to speak to you every morning, He will begin waking you up. He has been doing this to me for years. One of the ways I know this is true is because when I have gotten out of the habit of getting up early to get my prayer time in, when I ask Him to help me, the very next morning my eyes open and I am wide awake at our regular prayer time. He wants to spend time with you!

God will open your ear. You might say, “But I cannot hear God’s voice.” I guarantee you that if you ask Him, He will “open” your ears. This does not necessarily mean that you will hear His audible voice. Rather He will begin communicating with you in undeniable ways and make you more aware of how and when He is “speaking” to you.

God will give you His wisdom to encourage the weary. This is not something you garnered from a book, a degree, or online. No, this wisdom comes directly from God. Therefore, if you will just spend time with Him, He will transmit His wisdom into your heart and mind. Everyone can tell when God’s wisdom is flowing through you. His words and wisdom are supernaturally empowering! People are weary right now, as I’m sure you are experiencing as well. The way it works is you hear God’s voice, you get encouraged, then you share that with others throughout the day and they get encouraged. This undoes the works of discouragement and hopelessness that the enemy is sowing into people’s hearts and minds.

Obey what He says. Notice that this is the only part of this verse that you initiate. God is the one who gives you wisdom, wakes you up, and opens your ear. But for any of it to make a difference in your life, and the lives of others, you must do what He says.

Remember what James said:

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” James 1:25

Do you want to be blessed in all that you do? Then ask God to wake you up, open your ears and speak wisdom to you. Then obey what He says. This is the pattern for living a victorious life.
