I know it is after the fact, but I have been so focused on what God is doing with the outpouring of His Spirit at GPC that I have not addressed what happened at the Capital Building recently. Last year the Lord gave us the Scripture Isaiah 60:1-2:

“Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.”

That word is still in play. The darkness has grown, but so has God’s glory, and it is being seen on us right now!

However, I do want to take a moment to clearly state that what happened at our Capital was horrendous. That is not who we are. None of us ever imagined that could, or would, ever happen in our country. Our democracy is founded on the exchange of ideas, differencing of opinions, and even protesting, but never violence and destruction!

There is a whole lot of misinformation, deception, lying, blame-shifting, and propaganda from all sides, so I am not going to even try to decipher all of that. But I will say that finding truth has become extremely difficult for us all, unless we are looking to the Word, the King, and the advancement of His Kingdom on the earth. And that is what I want us to focus on.

Yes, God wants godly government on earth. He wants truth to prevail and for all wickedness to be revealed and removed. He wants righteousness to win in our justice system and equity in the marketplace. He wants His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth, and He uses His Church to do it. We are to continue to pray for this, live righteously, proclaim the truth with all boldness, shine light on the darkness, and love with the love of God.

However, as it is in many other countries, even when these things are not experienced to the degree that we, or God, want them to, the kingdom of God still goes on! In fact, the darker it gets, the stronger the Church gets! God pours out more of His Spirit on us, we become even more fervent, and we reach a lost and dying world with the most powerful message on earth more effectively, because there is greater desperation. I know many of you have already witnessed this – people you never thought would turn towards God are now!

I want to encourage you to remember who you are – a son or daughter of God, an ambassador of Christ on earth, re-presenting Jesus wherever you go and to whomever you relate to. The writer of the Book of Hebrews reminds us of this when He says:

“… you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.” Hebrews 12:22-24 NLT

Let us love our friends and enemies. Let us pray for our rulers and leaders. Let us be the salt and light of the world in this desperate time. Let us be the Church!
