Just when things seem to be completely out of control, God does something to show that He is still in control.
Think about the time the prophet Elisha and his servant were surrounded by the Syrian army. It was two against hundreds of horsemen. However, Elisha knew that God was in control. He saw beyond what our natural eyes can see. He asked God to open his servant’s eyes to see into the spirit realm. God did and the servant saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire all around them!
Or the time Moses was pinned between the Red Sea and the entire Egyptian army. They were doomed. And yet God had a plan. Not only did God’s people escape through God’s supernatural intervention, but He also wiped out the enemy!
And, of course, everyone thought it was over when Jesus died. It is easy for us on this side of the resurrection to see God was in control. But if we were the ones standing at the foot of the cross when Jesus died, we may not have thought so.
You may think things are out of control. But God is always in control.
This past year has been one that seemed to be completely out of control. God gave me a word in December of last year that we were going to see His glory this year. It sure has not looked like it, has it? We can see glimpses of His glory, but nothing that overwhelms us. In fact, darkness and confusion seems to be the thing that has overwhelmed us.
But that is only the first part of Isaiah 60:2
“See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.” Isaiah 60:2-3
The fullness of God’s glory is yet to be seen.
I think a sign of this is what is going to happen tonight, the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.
You might not know about this event, but this is what some astronomers said happened when Jesus was born, what has been coined, “The Bethlehem Star”.
It has been nearly 400 years since the planets passed this close to each other in the sky, and nearly 800 years since the alignment of Saturn and Jupiter occurred at night, as it will for 2020, allowing nearly everyone around the world to witness this “great conjunction.”
Here is a link explaining how and when to view the “Star” tonight.
I wonder if God is giving us this sign at the end of one of the worst years we have ever experienced to let us know that He is still in charge? I have no doubt.
Did you know that God communicates with us through the stars? I am not talking about astrology – that is a New Age belief that the stars are telling us about our glory. No, God placed the stars perfectly in the sky as signs to us, revealing God’s glory!
“And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years.’” Genesis 1:14 NIV
“Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.” Psalm 1:8 NLT
Things may have seemed out of control this year, but God is yet to reveal His glory – a glory that will outshine the darkness!
God is still in control.
