I was up before dawn yesterday thinking about all the things I needed to do. And some were significant stressors, especially the things that were out of my control.
As I sat there feeling the anxiety rising, I realized I had not prayed about them. I had not invited Jesus into them.

Have you done that? Doing life without God? Even as a believer? When are we going to learn?

The Bible clearly tells us:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

We all know that we should pray about these things, but many times we do not.

Why do you think that is?

Some might think that God knows my needs, so why ask? But Jesus clearly told us that we need to ask, every day!

“Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11

Others might think that praying about specific things is not necessary, or that God is a bit too busy to give attention to the details of your life.
But what did that Scripture in Philippians say? “…in every situation…

God loves specific praying because it engages Him in the details of your life, and when He answers them, it makes it clearer that it was Him!

So, I began praying. And as I did, there was an unmistakable moment when the stress lifted. It was not when I began praying, because many times my stress increases due to the fact that I am thinking about things more deeply. No, it was when my praying shifted from just asking to believing! Believing that God was truly hearing my prayer and would be involved in the things I was praying about. That is when the peace came.

You know you can pray and not believe, right? That is why Jesus said,

Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you received them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24

That is why it is important to not simply pray till you are through, but rather “pray through”! Pray until faith comes!

It is like when my family and I were driving through the tunnel at Yosemite. We were told that when we got through to the other side the view would be spectacular! But what if we had a timer as we went through the tunnel, and when it sounded, we just stopped? That would be like praying till you are through, not praying through!

Here are a couple of things that moved me from just praying to praying and believing:

1. I thought of the times God has helped me in the past
2. I thought of how He cares for me.

Do you BELIEVE? That is the question, the difference-maker. That is when prayer becomes the best stress reducer.

Q. Do you pray about every situation in your life? If not, why not? Q. What would help you pray more?
Q. Will you practice not just praying till you are through, but rather “praying through”?
